SOWA RIGPA PROGRAMS

Sowa Rigpa Institute currently offers three Tibetan Medicine certificate programs that begin annually in September.

Application period for professional programs open every Spring/Summer and courses begin in September

Sowa Rigpa Institute is an NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) Professional Development Provider.

Non-Professional CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Foundations of Sowa Rigpa
1 Year | 100+ Hours

A one-year non-professional program exploring the fundamentals of Tibetan healing to better take care of oneself, improve quality of life, and learn how to promote health and rejuvenation in your home and community. The course follows the main structure of the Root Tantra (tsa gyu) with special emphasis on safe and practical applications at home:
• Approximately 100 hours of live online class time divided into eleven modules (one weekend per month)
• Enrichment activities to practice at home
• For students continuing on in professional tracks: Additional self paced videos, monthly meetings with group mentors and assessment 
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

Sowa Rigpa Practitioner
4 Years | 800+ Hours

A four-year professional training in Sowa Rigpa based on the Gyud Zhi རྒྱུད་བཞི། (Four Medical Tantras):
• Approximately 200 hours of class time each year (Year One = Foundations of Sowa Rigpa + Practitioner cohort supplementary videos and monthly mentorship meetings)
• Combination of self-paced video learning with select live online modules and weekly question and answer sessions with group mentor and assessments.
• Annual in-person practical intensives at Pure Land Farms in California and Italy (mandatory completion of two during the four year program)
• Opportunities for clinical internship and study abroad in Nepal complete the fourth year of training
Professional CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Sowa Rigpa Counselor
2 Years | 400+ Hours

A two-year professional training in a unique and dynamic form of counseling grounded in Sowa Rigpa, Yuthok Nyingthig, and contemporary psychotherapeutic theories and practices:
• Approximately 200 hours of class time each year (Year One = Foundations of Sowa Rigpa + Counselor cohort supplementary videos and monthly mentorship meetings)
• Combination of self-paced video learning with select live online modules and weekly online discussions and practical sessions 
• Intervision sessions to discuss case studies
• Optional in-person intensive
• Final Project on topic of student's choice
